(This work has been produced in reaction to a certain kind of impossibility about developing a critical approach towards Bill Viola's video works. For me, beyond their spectacularity and technical perfection, Viola's works do not create a "critical space" around them. I believe that criticism does not mean to tell people the hidden meaning of a work of art, to reduce the abstraction into understandable concreteness of everyday language -a work of art is always able to tell itself better than any other thing within its own abstract terms. Neither criticism should be valorization of artistic works with some vague criteria, telling what is good and what is bad - a work of art is able to valorize itself within its own quotations. In this sense, a constitutive way of criticism may be to produce another story, another form or another idea in resonance to those of work of art. The objective of criticism should be creating new contexts in which the power that the work of art already possesses can find new paths to flow, a proper criticism should build new relations between the the particular work of art and the other things in life.
At this point, the aim of this particular work is to cultivate a certain lack which is profound in many of Viola's works.
